Signs that baby is ready for Solids

Hi Everyone,

When I became mother for the first time I was bombarded with advice and suggestions and instructions to follow. But I followed my own instinct and the knowledge I had gained seeing some friend mommies and could raise my babies very well.

At each stage of baby’s growth I used to be thoroughly confused as to “what next”. So I thought let me share my experiences and tips so that it becomes easy for you to find out when you baby is ready for solids

My elder one was on breastfeed for first 4 months and then on formula exclusively for a 1-2 months.

Loss of Tong-thrust

Baby has lost the tongue-thrust reflex and does not automatically push solids out of his mouth with his tongue.

Ready to Chew

Baby is ready and willing to chew.

Able to support her neck

While she is not able to sit on her own completely. However, her neck is stable and that helps her sit with support.

Eager during mealtime

Baby is eager to participate in mealtime and may try to grab food and put it in his mouth.

Check this video which made us believe my daughter was ready for food 🙂 😀

Declaimer: I am not a pediatrician to judge. The points I have mentioned are based on my experiences and observation as a mother. Please consider speaking to you child’s pediatrician for any expert advice.

This is cool. I would have loved to have known this when my daughter was younger. Although my ex had a good feel for when she was ready to eat solid food thankfully.

Following your own instinct when it comes to your children is probably the best advice anyone can give.

I remember trying to figure out when mine were ready for solids. My oldest had to start early because he had reflux so bad he wasn’t gaining weight, but ended up keeping baby foods down at four months and it helped a lot (his ped suggested starting early). I’ve learned that it’s best to just follow their lead on most things, though!
